Background:
Egyptian writer Makkawi Said and artist Mohammed Saleh Murad founded Al-Dar Publishing and Distribution in 2005. A familiar face in Cairo’s literary scene, Said (author of Cairo Swan Song (AUC Press, 2009)) and Murad decided to open Al-Dar in order to publish new talents, having worked in the field for some time as both a writer and publishing consultant. Check Al-Dar’s Facebook page for information on the cultural salons and signings held by the house as well as for information on new releases. What you’ll find here: Al-Dar specializes in publishing literary works, though you’ll also find political and religious studies among its publications. While Al-Dar occasionally puts on signing parties and the like for new releases, they partner with bookstores and other spaces in doing so, as this house doesn’t have a dedicated bookshop. Their books can be found at Shorouk, Madbouli, Diwan, Omar Bookstore, and a host of other bookstores in Cairo. Last updated: August 2014 |
